APHRODISIAS
The archeological area at Aphrodisias is one of the
most sensational attractions in the ancient province
of Caria. The interesting ruins that were brought to
light thanks to the construction of a road leading to
the nearby village of Geyre, extend along a plain that
gently sloops down to
the valley of the Dandalas.
The opportunity to look at the ruins of this
Hellenistic-Roman city against a natural landscape
that seems to have been specifically designed to
present the historical memory of Aphrodisias of Caria
is unique and never to be forgotten experience.
TETRAPYLON
The graceful architecture of this structure which must
have been a monumental gate along the main north-south
street in Aphrodisias stands out clearly just to the
east of the Temple of Aphrodite. It is important to
note that the architectural and monumental splendor of
this building painstaking work; classification,
recomposiologists in the nineteen eighties. Some of
the scholars have hypothesized a relationship between
this ornamental structure and the temenos of the
nearby Temple of Aphrodite.The Tetrapylon has become
an essential point of reference in the archeoligical
landscape.
